Haven’t you ever wondered how do those football players can take so many hits in the head and still look intact? I mean those impacts seem really violent, don’t they?
Haven’t you ever wondered how do those football players can take so many hits in the head and still look intact? I mean those impacts seem really violent, don’t they? Well, that’s what their coaches and team doctors thought as their players were colliding with each other in front of their eyes.

So they teamed up with Simbex and started developing the first helmet capable of evaluating the strength of an impact in real time during one of their games or practices. And because they have to name their invention they called it the Head Impact Telemetry (HIT) System.
A sensor of impact located in the helmet along with a processor and transmitter make any helmet a lifesaver in the field. Information about dozens of players situated hundreds of meters away are sent from the sensors in their helmet to the data collector making possible for them to observed continuously. If an impact surpasses the safety level a pager warning is sent to the person in charge.
The duration of the impact, as well as rotational acceleration, the peak linear acceleration an the location of the incident are stored in the data collector for a more profound analysis. Hopefully this is just the start for the progress in making safer sports gear.

An interesting idea, a football that measures and displays how far it has been thrown, so next time you throw a “great one” you can brag about it, knowing the accurate distance. The distance thrown is calculated using sensors that detect when the ball is thrown. Then they detect the impact of a catch or a fumble.

It’s a useful idea actually. This way you will know what’s your best throw and what you have to improve. It’s weird that no one had thought of this before…

The VDF(virtual distance football) can be bought at Discovery for 19.95$.
